The Raptor entered service with the 27th Fighter Squadron. It changed aerial combat by allowing pilots to engage targets from "beyond visual range" (BVR) while remaining invisible to enemy radar. Its thrust-vectoring nozzles allow it to perform maneuvers that would stall any other aircraft.
