Ich bin ein Berliner
Date: June 1963
In one of the most famous speeches of the Cold War, President John F. Kennedy visited West Berlin to underline the support of the United States for West Germany shortly after the Soviet-supported East German regime built the Berlin Wall. His use of the German phrase "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a Berliner) became a legendary symbol of freedom.
